Bringing Tech Socialization to an independent school's enrichment program.
The Aerie Program is Wheeler's enrichment program. This course brings the Tech Socialization framework to students: how technology shapes the way we learn, work, spend, and connect, and how to read, speak, and build with it on purpose.
- Organization
- The Wheeler School, Aerie Program
- Role
- Aerie Program Instructor and Course Designer
- Dates
- Since October 2026; pilot spring 2027
- Skills
- Curriculum design, K–12 instruction, Tech Socialization framework.
Students use technology every day but rarely learn who designs it, whose interests it serves, or how they could shape it themselves.
Course designer and instructor.
What I Did- Step 1
Designed a Tech Socialization course adapted from DS291 and the four-level framework.
- Step 2
Pitched the course and joined the Aerie Program faculty.
- Step 3
Shaped the course to be discussion-based with no coding required: students map who builds technology, examine bias in algorithms and data sets through real cases, learn advocacy tactics and product management basics, interview people affected, and present a proposal for change.
- Course approved for a spring 2027 pilot.
